Diane Blanset Herman

Diane Blanset Herman, 74, Westmont, died August 6, 2016.  She was born October 12, 1941 in Johnstown, the daughter of the late Harry R. and Agnes Blanset.  Preceded in death by husband in 2007, Robert C. Herman, whom she married in 1969; step-son, Jeffrey C. Herman of Grass Valley, CA in 2014.  Survived by sisters, Carole Bromley, Overland Park, KS;  Corrine B. Helman, and husband, John Ronald, Johnstown; sister-in-law, Barbara Herman, Philipsburg.  Also survived by step-daughter-in-law, Kim Herman; granddaughters, Brook Ashley Herman, CA and Heather Joy Herman, CO and great-grandson, Clay Alan Desmond and many nieces, nephews and their families.  Diane was a 1959 graduate of Richland Twp. High School and a 1963 graduate of Home Economics from Penn State University.  She was employed as a Home Economist for Penelec and later served as Director of Home Economics and Appliance Marketing, having a staff of 15 Home Economists and 7 SAMS.  She concluded her 26 year career as Manager of Employer and Community Information for Penelec at Corporate Headquarters in 1990.  In the past 20 years, Diane joined and was a very active member of the Garden Club of Johnstown, serving as president in 1994-1995 and 1999-2000. She was GCFP District VI Director in 2005-2006.  She also served on the National Garden Club Board as Chairperson of the National Garden Week and on the membership committee and on the Central Atlantic Region Board.  She was chairperson of the Flower Show Schools for Garden Club Federation of the Pennsylvania Board in 2007-2015.  Diane was also a Master Flower Show Judge, serving as president of the Pittsburgh Area Judges Council in 2005; chairperson of the Laurel Highlands Area Judges Council 2012-2015; was president of the National Flower Arrangers in 2007-2010. Diane had floral designs published in several National Garden Club’s books; a member of the Dahlia Society and president of the Johnstown Branch of the American Association of University Women from 1992-1994. Diane also created floral designs for the altar in the Chapel of the Arbutus Retirement Home Community.  She was a member of Beulah United Methodist Church.  Friends will be received from 1 PM until time of funeral service at 4 PM, Thursday, at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, Inc., 921 Menoher Blvd.  Entombment Richland Cemetery.
