Elizabeth “Betty,” (Salem) Ghantous fell asleep in the Lord, May 10, 2017. She was born November 14, 1927 in Johnstown, the daughter of the late Albert and Gimelly (Toma) Salem. Preceded in death by husband, Elias A. Ghantous, daughter, Catherine Jackson and granddaughter, Leslie Lynne Jackson. She was the last surviving member of her family. Betty is survived by her son, Albert Ghantous and wife, Mary Jo (Yantus), grandchildren, Elias Ghantous and fiancée, Rebecca Hershey, Marissa Ghantous and fiancé, Michael Votruba, Elias Jackson, Sean Jackson and fiancée, Dana Farabaugh and great-grandsons, Nathan and Dylan Jackson. Also, survived by son-in-law, Thomas Jackson and wife, Kathy. Betty was a 1945 graduate of Southmont High School. Along with her husband, Elias, she was the founder of Elias Painting, where she worked for 51 years. Betty was devoted to her church, where she was involved in many organizations, but she most loved being a choir director. She had a positive outlook on life that affected all around her and she will be loved and missed by everyone. The family wishes to extend a special “thank you” to Windber Hospice for their compassionate care. Friends will be received from 4-8 PM, Friday at St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, 111 Alberta Avenue, with Trisagion Prayers of Mercy sung at 7 PM. Funeral service will begin at 11 AM, Saturday at the church. The Very Rev. Father Donald E. Shadid officiating. Interment Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary Special Projects Fund in Betty’s memory.
