Gerald C. "Jerry" Weinzierl

Gerald C., “Jerry,” Weinzierl, 94, Westmont, died October 7, 2016.  Born August 29, 1922  in Summerhill, son of the late Louis M. and Mary G. (Wirfel) Weinzierl.  Preceded in death by brother, Leonard Weinzierl, sister, Mildred Weinzierl, son-in-law, Raymond Barchiesi and brothers-in-law, Raymond Bodenschatz, Robert Markum and Donald Lane.  Survived by loving wife, Rose Marie (Leach), whom he married October 22, 1949, children, Ann (John) Krall, Jane Weinzierl, Rita (Michael) Shimek, Mary Weinzierl and Brian Weinzierl (Karen); 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  Also survived by sisters, Louise Bodenschatz, Agatha Markum and Grace Lane.  Jerry was a World War II, Army veteran.  He was Assistant Vice President and Trust Officer at the former U.S. National Bank. He was a member of The Johnstown Exchange Club, The American Legion, South Fork Post #0653, The Knights of Columbus and was previously on the Board of Directors at Grandview Cemetery.  Jerry was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed woodworking, hiking, hunting and cooking his famous deer sausage.  He had fun playing cards with his family and he could fix anything that was broken.  Jerry was a member of Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM., Monday by The Very Rev. Mark Begly.  Friends will be received at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, Inc., 921 Menoher Blvd. from 9 AM, Monday until time of departure for funeral Mass.  Interment at  Grandview Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted courtesy of Conemaugh Valley Detachment #287 Marine Corps League.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Quality Life Services at Westmont Woods, 787 Goucher Street, Johnstown, PA 15905.
