Janet Ellis (Daugherty) Vargo

Janet Ellis, (Daugherty), Vargo, 81, St. Michael, died June 30, 2017.  She was born February 6, 1936 in Kittanning, the daughter of the late Martin and Janet (Jack) Daugherty.  She is preceded in death by loving husband of 31 years, Joseph Vargo in 1990.  Survived by daughters, Trina Yvonne Vargo, Arlington, VA and Sonya Lynn Gabany, wife of Martin, Jr., St. Michael; grandson, Ethan Joseph Gabany, St. Michael.  Also survived by brother, Donald Daugherty, Ford City.  Janet grew up in McVille and graduated from Freeport High School.  She was a longtime member of the Rogers Chapel Methodist Church, McVille, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School, and was a member of the choir and Methodist Youth Fellowship. She was most recently a member of the St. Michael United Methodist Church. Janet was employed by Schenley, the A&P Company, and Mellon Bank, before her marriage to Joseph Paul Vargo of Ford City.  In addition to Ford City, Janet resided in Huntington from 1974-1976; Portage from 1976 until 1991 and St. Michael until her death. She enjoyed crocheting, watching the Penguins and spending time with her grandson, Ethan.  At Janet’s request, there will be no visitation.  Interment will be on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at 1:00 PM McVille Union Cemetery, Freeport.
