John P. Pearce

John P. Pearce, 90, Johnstown, died January 12, 2017 at Arbutus Park Retirement Community.  He was born May 10, 1926 in Johnstown, the son of the late Richard H. and Cora Belle (Thomas) Pearce.  John was the last surviving member of his immediate family.  Preceded in death by wife of 62 years, Belva L. (Dyer) Pearce in 2013;  brothers, Richard, Alfred (Jeff), William (Bud), and Homer Pearce and sister, Mildred Dishong;  brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Joyce Harvey.  Beloved father of son, Kevin P. Pearce and companion, Kathy Randall, Johnstown; daughter, Denise L. Cooper, Johnstown, and fiancé, Mark Drayer, Reynoldsville, and also survived by grandchildren, Emily Pearce and Brandon Lokesak and wife, Heather and great-grandchildren, Dominick, Mason and Adeline Lokesak.  John was a 1944 graduate of Johnstown High School and served on the Reunion Committee.  He retired from Bethlehem Steel Corporation as a Cost Estimator after 39 years of service.   He was a member of the Greater Johnstown Lodge F&AM #538 since 1955.  He was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows since 1948, serving as Noble Grand in 1951 and 1953 and was lodge secretary.  In 1987, John joined the William F. Packer Encampment, serving as Chief Patriarch in 1989 and Encampment Scribe.  He was a member of Homestead Avenue United Methodist Church.   Everyone who met John was struck by his kindness, sense of humor and love of family.  He enjoyed many vacations, home remodeling projects and always helping another person in need. Friends will be received from 3-7 PM, Sunday at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, Inc., 921 Menoher Blvd., where funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Monday.  Vicar Nancy Hoover officiating.
