John Triplin Obituary

John O. Triplin, Jr, 88, left his earthly tabernacle and gained eternal life and his crown of righteousness on February 23, 2024, at St Jude’s Haven where he was a resident.

John transitioned to glory peacefully with his family surrounding him sharing stories and laughter. Born November 7, 1935, in Greensboro, North Carolina to the late John O. Triplin, Sr and Margaret (Jones) Triplin.  Preceeded in death by his parents, grandparents Martin and Carrie Blackmore who raised him, siblings: Carrie L. Triplin, James W. Triplin, Robert L. Triplin, Sr., Charles W. Triplin, Jacky Triplin, and daughters Sheila and Jacqueline R. Triplin. He is survived by his sister Betty J. Aaron and brother Clarence (Pete) Triplin.  Survived by his children: Devin D. Triplin, Rev. Antoinette D. Allen, Minister Martin O. Triplin (Janice), (the late) Jacqueline R. Triplin, John K. Triplin (the late Mona), and Darla Harris.  10 grandchildren Jonathan Triplin, Chardonnay Allen, Tynetta Johnson, Pastor Desmond Triplin, Gwendolyn Msolomba, Jonnay Triplin, Reginald Harris, Jr., Darlisa Triplin, Cairo Elhazz-Jabbar and Cameron Elhazz-Jabbar.  30 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and one in-the-oven, and companion Sherrine King.  John had a host of nieces and nephews who referred to him as “Uncle Junney”.

John graduated from Greater Johnstown High School, after which he entered the military, and served in the Air Force.  After leaving the Air Force, John worked at Cambria County Transit Authority as one of the first black bus drivers.  He also worked at Bethlehem Steel Corporation and then returned to the Transit Authority after which he retired.

John was the past Exalted Ruler at Flood City Lodge # 371, and the F&AM.  He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, spending time with his family and going to social events to listen to good music.

While his health was deteriorating, his daughter took custody of him, and his latter days became greater than his former.  John was an active member of Christ Centered Community Church where he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior!  He was faithful in coming to church even though his health was failing.  The favor of God was on his life.  He became known as the “Church Dad.”  He loved to sing with the choir, and he stood up for the reading of Scripture as he reverenced the sacredness of the Word of God!

Viewing will be on Thursday from10 am to 12pm, at Christ Centered Community Church, 531 Somerset Street, Johnstown, PA  15901.  Home going service begins at 12pm at the church and will be streamed on Facebook live via Brandon King’s Facebook page.  The family is being served by Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, West Hills.
