Rev. Wilbert A. Boerstler, PH.D., 86, Ferndale, died April 18, 2018. He was born December 8, 1931, in Ferndale. The son of the late William and Catherine (Tomsko) Boerstler. He is also preceded by his siblings, Florence E. Sharbaugh; Emma L. Koerber; and Herbert Boerstler. He is survived by his foster son, Raymond Lawrence, his nieces Emma Jane (Fred) Ailes and Cory (James) King; by his great nieces, Stephanie, Deborah, Tammi, John and Chelsea; as well as great, great nieces, nephews and cousins by the dozens. Wilbert graduated at Ferndale High School; Bachelor of Arts, Magna Cum Laude, University of Pittsburgh; Master of Divinity, Lutheran Theological Seminary; Doctor of Philosophy, NY University; and ordained at Zion Lutheran Church in Johnstown. He served as Pastor, Smicksburg Parish; Christ Lutheran Church, Brooklyn, NY; Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church, East Elmhurst, NY; St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Brooklyn, NY; Headmaster, St. Stephen Lutheran Parochial School, Brooklyn, NY; Associate Pastor, Grace Lutheran Church, Ormond Beach, FL; Pastor Christus Victor Lutheran Church, New Port Richey, FL; Chaplain, Wartburg Home, Mt. Vernon, NY; Interim Pastor, Moxham Lutheran Church, and Interim Pastor, Zion Lutheran Church, both in Johnstown.
Founder and Past President of the Ferndale Historical Society as well as serving on the Sandyvale Cemetery Board and he was active in the Ferndale Lions Club and served as a past President. And his feathered friends(ducks) will miss the daily feeding.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Ferndale Historical Society or the Cambria County Humane Society.
Visitation will be Monday, April 23, from 3 – 7 pm at Picking-Treece-Bennett, Inc., and Tuesday from 10 am until the time of the service at 11 am, at Zion Lutheran Church, Locust Street. Bishop Michael Rhyne officiating. Interment Grandview Cemetery. (PTBMortuary.com)
