Valeria B. “Val” Stewart, 96, Laurelview Village, died June 9, 2017.  She was born, July 3, 1920, in Holsopple, daughter of the late Clarence and Verna (Snably) Baker; she was preceded in death by her first husband Fred Grantham, and her second husband W. Donald Stewart.  She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Val had an extended family as well, George Raptosh; Rosalind Raptosh and Suzann Delaney, who adored her.  She looked forward to their visits and expressed delight in their conversations.  Val was a graduate of Johnstown High School, and the Conemaugh School of Nursing, in 1942, she then was employed as a nurse by the US Government, and eventually for the FBI, where she was J. Edgar Hoover’s personal nurse.  This is when she met her second husband Don, who also worked for the FBI.  During their retirement, she and Don lived in Florida before returning to the Johnstown area.  Val was a kind, gentle and thoughtful person, who certainly demonstrated those attributes in her exchange with the other residents at Laurelview Village.  “We are sure that the residents, nurses and caregivers will miss her, her wit and sense of humor.”  She will also be missed by all those who were fortunate enough to know her. “Val’s care at Laurelview Village was exceptional and we are grateful for that.” At her request, there will be no public visitation, but services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM, at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, Inc., 921 Menoher Blvd.  Rev.  Jeffrey Bissette officiating. Interment Grandview Cemetery.
