Hockenberry, Alpha (Al) Gordon “Huck”, 83, Johnstown, went to be with the Lord, May 20, 2022, surrounded by family at home after battling a long illness. Born August 22, 1938 in Johnstown, son of the late Gordon C., and Catherine S. (Miller) Hockenberry. Survived by his loving wife Linda M. (Himes) Hockenberry with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage; sons Edward G. Hockenberry (Jacqueline) and David R. Hockenberry (Melissa); 3 grandchildren, Olivia M. Hockenberry, Emily G. Hockenberry, and Tyler A. Stewart; sisters Catherine Ann (Hockenberry) Margroum (late husband Donald) and Karen L. (Hockenberry) Kindja (husband John); brother-in-law Raymond C. Himes and wife Frances; numerous close cousins and friends. Al retired from General Electric Apparatus Service Shop, Johnstown, after 28 years of service, plus proudly served in the United States Marine Corps at Marine Corps Base Hawaii Kaneohe Bay. Al held many positions including treasurer of I.O.O.F. Alma Lodge #528 and William F. Packer Encampment #127; member of Hilltop Area Senior Citizens; enjoyed bowling, playing cards (Hearts), camping and fishing. The family deeply appreciates the loving care and compassion he received from Windber Hospice medical staff, especially Al’s nurse Jessica and aide Michael. Al was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, where services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, Rev. Michael Van Dyke officiating. Interment Richland Cemetery, where military rites will be held by the Marine Corps League, Conemaugh Valley Detachment #287. Friends will be received at the Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, Inc., 921 Menoher Blvd. on Monday from 3-7 PM. and Tuesday 10-11 at the church.
