Carolyn Rae Flynn, 88, Johnstown, died April 10, 2025, at Brookdale Memory Care in Export, PA. Born January 7, 1937 in Lilly, PA, daughter of Francis and Elsie (Brown) Beichner. Preceded in death by parents; husband Michael P. Flynn, Sr.; sister Mary Ann Stevens. Survived by children Michael, and wife Betsy, David and wife Deb, Alan and wife Laura, Kathleen and husband Ron; grandchildren Patrick, Cristy, Aubrey, Andrea, Jude and Jordan; great-grandchildren Flynn, Rowan, Beckett, Hallie, and Josie Rae on the way. She is also survived by her siblings, Joan Criste (Bob Morig), Cathy Hite (Tom), Dorothy Heinrichs(Ed), Flossie DeRiso (Richard) and Mickie Eberhart (Scott).
Rae started her adult life as a nurse at Mercy Hospital. That selflessness continued as she took care of everyone she loved. Rae also devoted her time playing the organ for Mass ever since she was a child, a dedication to her Catholic faith. What made Rae the happiest was spending time with her loved ones. Called “Ma” by her grandchildren, she loved getting everyone together and making every occasion special. Whether it be vacationing at Treasure Lake, dressing up as Mrs. Claus while handing out gifts, hosting the family for holidays, having her grandchildren over for big sleepovers, or playing cards and games together, she was happiest when everyone was together. She was often heard giggling while her husband “Pa” could be seen shaking his head. As much as she loved her children and grandchildren, there was no one in this world she loved more than her husband, Mickey.
As much as she loved her children and grandchildren, there was no one in this world she loved more than her husband, Mickey. Rae never got tired sharing the story of how they met. She heard him whistling as he walked down the hall of the hospital and how that simple moment sparked a lifelong connection. They were the perfect pair, showing all of us an example of what true love looks like in sickness and in health.
Rae found so much joy in the little things in life and her giggles and happiness were contagious. She truly made every person who came her way feel loved and taken care of. Her light will live on through her family.
We smile knowing Rae is united with Mickey again in heaven, and passed peacefully surrounded by her children.
Finally, to the loving staff at Brookdale Murrysville and Viaquest Hospice, our angels on earth, we cannot thank you enough for taking care of our mom. At her request, there will be no visitation, but a funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM on Monday April 14, 2025, at St. Benedict Catholic Church.
