Charles A. Hinterliter, 97, formerly of Johnstown, died September 2, 2021. Born March 12, 1924, son of the late Charles E. and Amanda M. (Holtz) Hinterliter. Also preceded in death by his wife Emilia J. Hinterliter in 2011 along with sons Clifford and Joseph. Survived by brother Richard, niece Nancy Saloney and step daughters, Debbie and Denise Klink. Charles was retired from Bethlehem Steel, with 44 years of service. At the time of his retirement he still served on the grievance committee. Serving in WWII, he was a demolitions specialist and MI Carbine Marksman. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, and also a lifetime member of “Military Order of the Purple Heart”, (having 2 Purple Hearts); as well as 3 Bronze Stars, a Medal of Honor; and the WWII Victory Medal. He served with the Elite 27th Rangers Battalion and received a Presidential Citation from Harry S. Truman. Friends will be received at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, 921 Menoher Blvd. from 3-6 PM on Wednesday, and where the funeral will be held at 11 AM on Thursday. Entombment at Grandview Mausoleum. Military rites will be held by Conemaugh Valley Det. #287, Marine Corps League.
