David H. Gaines, Sr.

David Harold Gaines,, Sr., 81, Johnstown, passed away peacefully at his home on December 8, 2023.  He was born October 3, 1942 in Johnstown, son of the late Harry and Eleanor Williams) Gaines.  Also preceded in death by his soulmate Beverly Grace (Whitlow) Gaines, whom he married in 1965 and they lived together for their entire marriage in Johnstown; daughter, Dr Tracy Patricia (Gaines) Jeffries; sisters Barbara and Patricia Gaines; brothers Joseph, John, and Anthony.  David is survived by five children, Sheri Renee Charles, VA; Tina Louise Butler, VA; David Harold Gaines, Jr. and wife Leona, NJ; Dennis Anthony Gaines and wife Stacey, VA; Dion Michael Gaines and wife Lora, VA; brother Patrick and grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.  David was employed for 50 successful years as a Johnstown city bus driver, before retiring in 2018 with Cam Tran.  He loved interacting with the public on a daily bases while driving the bus.  He enjoyed decades of bowling with the Rock and Rollers and various other local bowling leagues.  He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, where he attended live broadcast services from his home.  He was a lifetime diehard Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan.  Friends will be received from 3-7 PM on Friday, December 15, 2023 at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, 921 Menoher Blvd., where funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, December 16, at 11 AM, Rev. James Crookston officiation.  Interment at Benshoff Hill Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart & Kidney Associations, and/or the Cancer Research Association.
