Deborah May (Miltenberger) Matera

Deborah May (Miltenberger) Matera, age 77, of Johnstown, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family at Windber Hospice on July 14, 2026. Born January 12, 1949, Debby was the last of 4 children born to Edward Miltenberger and Mary Helen (Gouchnour) Miltenberger. She graduated from Conemaugh Township high school and the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in biology. She retired from a career of sorting mail at the USPS. Debby had a great love for music and sang with the Johnstown Symphony Chorus for many years throughout her adult life. Her interests also included crafting, sewing, and her flower beds. Debby was full of love and kindness with a love of all animals and had many beloved pets over the years. She is preceded in death by her parents Edward and Mary Helen Miltenberger, sister and brother-in-law Patty (Miltenberger) and Thomas Herron, sister-in-laws Ellen (Blough) Miltenberger and Sheila (Dunn) Miltenberger, nephews James Miltenberger and Alan Miltenberger, nieces Tangie Miltenberger, Helen Miltenberger, and Laura Miltenberger. Debby is survived by her children Nathan and Monica (Fisher) Matera, Elizabeth (Matera) and Joaquin Howell, Christiana (Matera) and Robert Jaworski; grandchildren Alison Matera, Ethan Matera, Mary Matera, and Phoebe Jaworski; brothers David Miltenberger and Alan Miltenberger; nephew Thomas Herron; nieces Laura Ford, Linda Shipman, Kathy Tillitson, Lisa Miltenberger, and Brenda Miltenberger; step-grandchildren Dustin and Erica (Gaudin) Howell, Ryan and Alyssa (Gorden) Howell, and Kaden Howell; step-great-grandchildren Jade Howell, Elwen Howell, and Jacob Howell; as well as many extended family members and friends. Friends and family will be received Tuesday, July 21 from 9-11 at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, 921 Menoher Blvd.,with the funeral to follow. In lieu of flowers, Debby would have loved a tree planted in her honor.
