Donald Richard Jefferson, fondly known as Chappy, 88, of Johnstown, Pennsylvania went home to be with the Lord on June 22, 2024, at the Veterans Van Zandt Medical Center in Altoona surrounded by his family. Donald was born on August 01, 1935, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to parents Clarence Jefferson and Minnie (Holmes)(Jones) Jefferson. Preceded in death by parents and his wife, Marie Arlene, sons: Terry D. Jefferson and Anthony Lynn Jefferson; brothers: Norman Jones, Jr., Milton Jones, Clarence Jones, and John Jefferson; sisters: Irene Doleman, Mabel Holmes, Louise Jones, Lorena Manning, Marion Jefferson and Dorothy Berry.
Donald leaves behind two daughters, Ursula (Frank) and Tammy (Tim) and one son Richard (Rick); eleven grandchildren: Anthony, Jr., Aireon, Nichol (Ryan), Tameka, Jordan, Amber, Tiarra, Timmy, Frank, Terrance, Alexis and sixteen great grandchildren. Donald also leaves behind two sisters, Betty Veney (Spring, Texas) and Thelma Jones (Trenton, New Jersey) and he will be missed by many nephews, nieces, cousins and special friends, Mike Nagy and Arthur Jackson.
Donald retired from the military serving both the U.S. Army and serving 20 years with the U.S. Air Force during the Peacetime and Vietnam Era. After the military, he was employed at Penelec and retired in 1985. Donald enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was baptized at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was an active lifetime member of VFW Post 0849, American Legion and a Silver lifetime member of the NAACP. Friends will be received from 10-12 on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at the Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, 921 Menoher Blvd. where service will be held at noon with Rev. Theodore Tisinger officiating. Entombment will be at the Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum with military rites by the Marine Corps League.
