Obituary

Emil J. Farkas, Jr., 94, Brownstown, died July 9, 2023.  Born August 24, 1928 in Johnstown son of Emil J. and Ruth P. (Cooper) Farkas.  Preceded in death by parents; wife, the former Helen M. Droz; daughter Carol Fatula; siblings Patricia, Jimmy and Pearl.  Survived by daughters Kathy Farkas; Karen Vigna (Len); and son-in-law David Fatula.  Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Mandy, Lenny, Michael, Paul and Emily, along with 9 great-grandchildren.  Emil was a very hard worker and was loved by all who knew him, and for over 40 years was a member of the Duke Andrews band, where he played the saxophone and clarinet.  He was formerly employed at the Coke plant, Bethlehem Steel.  He was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church where funeral mass will be held at 11 AM on Friday, Rev. William Rosenbaum officiating. Friends will be received at the Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, Inc., 921 Menoher Blvd. on Thursday from 4-7 PM.  Interment Grandview Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
