Ernest L. Oaks, Jr., 91, Johnstown, passed away May 23, 2023 at Select Specialty Center. Born December 15, 1931 in Johnstown, son of Ernest L. and Magdalene (Hettle) Oaks. Preceded in death by parents; wife Virginia (Yoder); sisters Shirley Bennett (Earl), Connie Oaks; brother Eugene Oaks (Vevette); daughter-in-law Roxann Oaks. Survived by sister Nancy Woodward; sons Ernest L., III and Larry J. Oaks. Also surviving are grandchildren Stephanie Hendrickson (Brian), Tina Burke, Magdeline Huffman (Eric), Larry Oaks, Jr. (Jessica), Ernest Oaks, IV (Jessica) and Amanda Oaks. Also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Ernest was a Korean War vet, serving 3 years in Germany. He was also a welder for 35 years at Bethlehem Steel, Johnstown. He was an avid fisherman and loved going for walks and riding his scooter around the block greeting neighbors. He was a very devoted Christian and a member of St. John Gualbert Cathedral, where mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 PM Friday, Rev. Matthew Baum officiating. Family will receive friends on Thursday from 4-8 PM at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, 921 Menoher Blvd. In memory of Ernest Oaks, those who wish may make contributions to the Association for the Blind, 211 Central Ave., Johnstown, PA 15901
