Evelyn A. Haggerty, 93, Westmont, died January24, 2026. She was born March 2, 1932, in Jerome, daughter of the late Delbert and Gladys (Bauder) Parkins, her loving husband James Haggerty in 2018, sister Leatrice Woodruff, and husband Kenneth, brother Donald Parkins, grandson Joseph Haggerty, special aunt Theresa Knipple, son-in-law Robert Smith, beloved cousin Jack, Wilbur and Peggy Lavely, Tom and Mary Bidleman, nephew Michael Bidleman and brother and sister in laws. Survived by children Coleen Mihalko (Daniel), Kathleen Haggerty Smith, Patricia Haggerty Baker (Michael), James M. Haggerty (Evelyn). Also grandchildren Meagan, Kerry, Patrick, Justin, Brandon, Brett, Matthew, James, Alex and Kaylee; and great-grandchildren Alex, Junie, Luca, Shelby and Emory, and sisters-in-law Bea Haggerty and Sally Parkins.
Evelyn retired after 23 years with The Childhood Development Center, which was a center for special needs children and their parents; she was the home-school co-ordinator. She devoted many hours talking to the care-givers, and was able to connect with the children in a special way. She also worked at he former Acme store in the clerical department and as a switchboard operator.
She attended Early Childhood development courses at St. Francis University in Loretto and workshops in Harrisburg, towards her certification in early childhood development.
Evelyn was a member of several historical societies. She served as a Board Member with the Johnstown Community Concert, where she also served as Campaign Chair-woman and Second Vice-president. She also volunteered at Memorial Medical Center since 1994 in the Behavioral Health Department.
She enjoyed amateur photography, with photos being published in the International Library of Photography and in the Johnstown papers. Also a member of Caring Friends OMOS Bridge Club, D.A.L Bridge Group, Amperes Club, 1951 Johnstown Class Committee, Community Concert Assn., Community Arts Center, Johnstown Allied Artist Association, Westmont Senior Citizens, and the Yea-Yea Group of Acme Markets.
She had a love of playing bridge and throughout her life was blessed to have so many friends to play with.
She enjoyed painting, especially ceramics, for friends and family, music, art and antiquing. She and her husband travelled extensively through the USA, Canada and throughout the world.
She was a charter member of St. Clement Catholic Church where she was involved in many church and school activities since 1958.
She then enjoyed her time at McCullough where she had a special home with many new friends and caretakers. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, the Cambria County Community Arts Center, or WQED. Friends will be received on Thursday from 2-5 at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, West Hills, Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 11:00 AM at St. Clement Catholic Church, Rev. William Rosenbaum officiant.
