Frank Spriggs Obituary

Frank Henry Spriggs, Jr., 84, Westmont, died on Sunday, January 30, 2022.  Born November 3, 1937, in Greensburg, son of Frank and Ellen (Whitmore) Spriggs.  Preceded in death by parents and infant grandson.  Survived by faithful wife of 59 years, Janet Kay (Byers) Spriggs; son, Scott Alan of St. Johns, IN and wife Sherrie; grandchildren, Emily Grace and David Scott Spriggs.  Also survived by sister, Frances Ellen Keepers, of Laurel, MD, 3 nephews and faithful companion and four-footed furry fellow, Bently.Frank graduated from Greensburg High School, in 1955 and later obtained a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.  Upon graduating from CIT, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army’s Corps of Engineers.  After active duty, he was a member of the 458th Engineer Battalion for many years and served in various staff positions until becoming the Battalion Commander.  Later he served as a staff officer at the 99th ARCOM headquarters in Pittsburgh.  He was a graduate of US Army Command and General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, KS and the US Army War College, Carlisle, PA.  He retired from the army as a Colonel in 1988.Frank was employed by US Steel Corporation for 24 years.  He obtained a professional Engineer License and retired as Director-Commercial at the Johnstown facility in in 1983.  At that time, he started a 17-year career at Merrill Lynch as a Financial Advisor, turning his long-time hobby into a full-time job.  In 2000, Frank, together with his partner, Ellen Grace Vorhauer, opened an independent financial advisory office in Richland Township, affiliated with Raymond James Financial Services where he was employed until 2019.  He was always appreciative of the support he received from many long-time clients during the difficult economic times in the early 2000’s.  Upon his departure from Raymond James in 2019, he concluded 60 years of employment.Frank was a member of the Westmont United Methodist Church and also a long-time member of the Reserve Officer Association.  Friends will be received from 3-7 pm on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, 921 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown, where services will be held with the Rev. Carl Irwin, at 10 am, Friday, February 4, 2022.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Frank’s favorite charity, Wounded Warrior Project, or Cambria County Humane Society.  Following the service, interment will follow at Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg.
