Frederick Douglas Hoffman, affectionally known as (Doug) transitioned to eternal life on January 21, 2026 at the age of 90. Born April 10, 1935 in Clayton, Alabama, the son of Albertine and James Hoffman. Preceded in death by his parents, sister Thelma Brandon and step-daughter Melinda Marshall. Survived by daughters Tammy Yates (Vaughn) of Clinton, MD, Jacqueline Cleveland (Gregory) of Douglasville, GA, Constance Troutman of Woodbridge, VA, Crystal Tisinger (Justin), step-daughter Darlene Smith both of Johnstown, PA and son Fred Hoffman. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, along with many other family and friends who will sadly miss him.
Through his journey of 90 years, he touched many lives with his wit and humor, generosity, and always there willing to help those in need. He left a lasting impact on everyone he met and those that knew him and will be remembered for his big smile and a hand wave.
Doug was employed by Bethlehem Steel for over 28 years where he worked as a steelworker. He was well known around town where everybody knew his name and was well loved by everyone. One thing you will remember about Doug, he was always in his signature Kangol hat. He was an avid pool player and in his free time could often be found playing pool in the game room of his apartment building. He also enjoyed his daily walk to Em’s Sub Shop downtown Johnstown and going to Smoke City to play his numbers and get his scratch offs.
His legacy will be carried forever in our hearts and we will cherish all of the great memories we have over the years. As our Dad would say each time we all talked to him he always ended our call by saying “I Love You” and “Bye for Now”. So, as we say “Bye for Now” to our beloved Dad may you rest in heavenly peace. We love you Dad!
Services will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Picking Treece-Bennett Mortuary, 921 Menoher Blvd. Rev. Ralph Johnson, officiant, with friends being received from 10:00am until the time of service. Interment Benshoff Hill Cemetery.
