George Carroll Cassanese, 85, Westmont, died May 15, 2020. George was born July 10, 1934, in Windber to the late Joseph M. and Angeline (Patchen) Cassanese, he was also predeceased by brothers, Eugene and Angelo, sister, Josephine Lamb (James); grandchildren, Morgan and Charles Brendan Hall; and great grandchild, Jiya Morales; and nephews Angelo Cassanese, Jr. and Ricky Lamb. George is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ruby Jane (Medva), who he married at St Mary’s Hungarian Church, Windber; children George, Jr., Mary Jane Hall, Carolyn Erickson(Thomas), Christine Hudak(David); grandchildren Sam Bowlin(Emma),Jenna Baker(LaVaughn), Juliann Johnson(Roderick), Nicole Perrot(Drew),Kaleigh Hudak, Tomilynn Underwood(Cody), Tyler Hudak and Lucas Cassanese; and sister Mary DeDea, and several loving nieces and nephews. George served with the Marine Corps, during the Korean War, and was a member of the Silent Drill Team, and the Presidential Guard, and was honored with the most Distinguished Marine of the Washington, D.C. barracks. He retired from Bestform after 40 years, and was a member of Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, where a private Funeral Mass will be held Very Rev. Mark S. Begly, officiant. Interment following at St. Anthony of Padua church cemetery. Military honors accorded by Conemaugh Detachment Marine Corps League. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Arbutus Park Manor, or Windber Hospice, in George’s honor. The family is being served by Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, Inc.
