Harry E. Brazil

Harry Edward Brazil, of Scott Depot, West Virginia, formerly of Westmont, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026, at the age of 96.

He was born on August 29, 1929, to the late Charles E. and Gladys E. (Reid) Brazil. Harry was happily married to Merna (Smay) in 1950 and enjoyed 63 years of marriage before her passing in 2014.

He was also predeceased by his daughter, Marjorie Stricker; sisters Ruth Brazil, Betty Chestnutwood, Gladys Raslavich, and Virginia Glattke; brothers Charles, Walter, and David; and grandson James Harry Siplivy.

Left to cherish Harry's memory are his daughters, LuAnn Siplivy (James) and Tracie Hamula (Steve) of Cross Lanes, WV; sisters Mael Fuller and Linda Shumaker; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A member of the Franklin Street United Methodist Church, Harry also volunteered with the JUMP program. He served as Master of the Conemaugh Valley Lodge No. 692 of the Free and Accepted Masons. After retiring from Bethlehem Steel at the age of 53, he aimed to enjoy more years collecting a pension than he had spent working—a goal he easily surpassed. He filled his retirement with golfing, fishing, and watching sports, particularly enjoying Penguins hockey and Steelers football with his son-in-law, Steve.

Harry spent his final years in his adopted state of West Virginia. He was well-liked in the community at Harmony and English Meadows, often holding court at the evening dinners. He lived life as an honorable, loving man and will be deeply missed by his family and many close friends.

Harry’s wishes were for a private visitation and service, held quietly with those who loved him. He will be laid to rest at Mount Hope Cemetery beside his beloved wife. Arrangements were entrusted to Picking Treece Bennett Mortuary, whose care and guidance supported the family during this time.
