Joann S. Keefer

Joann S. Keefer, age 93, passed away on July 31, 2024 after a brief illness.  She was born March 21, 1931 in Johnstown to the late Claude and Maud(McCurdy) Shuff, also preceded in death was her husband Donald Keefer, daughter Susan Keefer, and brother Monte Shuff.  Survived by her daughter Tracy Keefer (Joe Gallo), Pittsburgh, sisters-in-law, Betty Shuff, Lockport, NY and Lois Kohler, Johnstown, plus numerous nieces and nephews.  Joann was a graduate of Greater Johnstown High School and CVMH School of Nursing.  Joann pursued many nursing opportunities over her life and eventually retired from the Red Cross after spending years on the road supporting blood donation drives.  As a lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church, Joann's faith brought her joy and comfort that carried her through her life and the passing of her devoted husband, Don, in 2015 and her loving daughter, Sue, in 2023.   She was a loving wife and mother and a good friend to many.  She loved Penguins Hockey, the daily crossword puzzle, swim class at the YWCA, phone chats with far away friends, and going out to lunch with family and friends.  Mom believed chocolate and any kind of dessert is happiness you can eat.  So next time you indulge in something sweet - smile and think of her.  She would like that.
