John Albert Glista, 80, of Johnstown, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025. Born March 15, 1945, in Lilly, PA, he was the son of the late Maryann (Merso) and Stanley Michael Glista.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, David R. Somerville and Kathy R. Somerville.
John is survived by his devoted wife of 22 years, Susan (Somerville) Glista; sisters Mary, married to Paul Knepper Sr., of Mineral Point, and Carol Brancato of East Taylor; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and brothers-in-law who will deeply miss his kind presence.
A man of quiet strength, patience, and boundless love, John was a longtime member of St. John Gualbert Cathedral since 1985, where he faithfully served as an usher and assisted with maintenance over the years. He was also a beloved member of the Peer Empowerment Network Center, where his gentle spirit touched many lives.
John was a loving “cat dad” to his cherished Thunder, his loyal companion for 17 years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to Peer Empowerment Network, FAVOR of Laurel Highlands, ACRP Peer Support Program, Cambria Residential Services, or St. John Gualbert Cathedral.
John will be remembered for his quiet presence, loving heart, and the patient kindness he shared with all who knew him.
The Funeral Mass will be held at St. John Gualbert Cathedral on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 10:00 AM the Rev. Matthew Baum officiating.
