Joyce Schmid

Joyce Schmid (Homauer) was born October 29, 1929 and entered the gates of heaven on January 30, 2025.  She was met with open arms by those she dearly missed that passed before, her parents Helen and Francis Homauer, and her husband Julius and her beloved son Brad. 

Mom left behind Bryan Schmid, Gina Dyda, Randy and Dominka Schmid, Sandi and Frank Crespi, Joanne Eritano, and her 7 grandchildrn that she cherished, Kelly, Derric, Zachary, Zane, Jan, Jordan Crespi and Jackie Leckey. 

Mom was a graduate of Cambria Rowe Business School and worked for Bethlehem Steel Co., Penelec, National Radiator Co., Jackson Township Water Authority and Johnstown Bank and Trust.  Later in life mom became a hospice volunteer, jumping into her VW bug, sometimes in the middle of the night, to provide comfort and support to families in their time of need. 

Joyce was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church.

We would like to thank each and every employee of Laurel View Village.  LVV became mom’s second home once she sold her house in Vinco, each of you know how much you meant to her.  We sincerely thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts for your love, compassion, and support. 

A private service will be held graveside at Grandview Cemetery sometime in the spring of 2025.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the First Lutheran Church, 415 Vine St., Johnstown, PA  15901 would be greatly appreciated. 

A message from mom to her family and friends;

“Fear not, your loneliness on empty days, but fill each working hour in useful ways.  Reach out your hand in comfort and cheer to those around you.  I, in turn, will comfort you and hold you nearby.  Never be afraid to move on for Dad, I and Brad are waiting to see you again.”
