Lelia Calderwood, 89, Johnstown, died January 5, 2020. Born October 5, 1930 in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late John B. and Ingeborg (Tappert) Calderwood. Also preceded in death by sister Margaret Harrington. Survived by sister Elsa Schlentner (Karl); nieces Sandra Kubala (Gary), Leanne Harrington and Kristina Guntherson (Brett); nephews Scott Schlentner (Lori) and Sean Harrington (Dia). Lelia was a 1952 graduate of Thiel University and received her Masters Degree in 1960 from Middlebury University. Lelia was a French and English teacher at Greater Johnstown High School for 33 years. She also taught at Adams-Summerhill and Cochran schools. She was a member & served on church council of Zion Lutheran Church, past president of WELCA, member and past president of Delta Kappa Gamma, Chamber Welcome Center, Sigma Kappa Sorority, Friends of the Library, and several card clubs. She loved music and sports and to read and travel. Friends will be received from 3-7 PM Wednesday at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, Inc., 921 Menoher Blvd. Funeral service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church on Thursday at 11 AM, Rev. Michael Van Dyke officiating. Interment at Richland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 613 Locust St., Johnstown, PA 15901.
