Mary Smith Obituary

Smith, Mary Alice, 78, our cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on October 25, 2024, at the Windber Hospice Care Unit.  She was born on February 21, 1946.  Mary Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Thomas and Doris (Evans) Smith; her husband Rodney B. Smith (Haselrig); her first husband, Havert (Tojo) King; and her children Yolanda May King; Dorothy (King) Edwards; and Robert F. King.  She also mourned the loss of her brothers, Richard F. Smith; Wilson Lee Smith; and Bishop Robert E. Smith; as well as her sisters, Marie Martin; Carrie Black; and Francine Pridgen; her grandchildren, Thomas King; Abdul Wright; Judea Thomas; and grandson-in-law Andre Hinton, Sr.  Mary Alice is survived by her children: Nancy Williams, married to Deacon Leonard Williams, Johnstown, Pa; Valery King, Lorain, OH; Havert King, Jr., Johnstown; Thomas A. King, Johnstown; Darrell King, married to Amy King, Johnstown.  She is also survived by her brothers:  Thomas S. Smith; David (Bay) Smith; Lonnie Bush, all of Johnstown.  Also her sisters Lacy E. Smith, Newberry, TX; Yvonne Roebuck, Johnstown; Lizzie Bush, OH.  She was a member of Undenominational House of God, under Bishop David March, Sr.  She was the mother of the church and president of the kitchen club with sister Angie March.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, crafts and spending time with her children and grandchildren.  Mary Alice leaves behind 25 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren.  She was blessed with a best friend of 40 years, Ms. Bessie, and her late husband, Otis Simpson; alongside her special friend, Arlene Neural, and Godson, Reggie Dean.  Mary Alice’s legacy continues through a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and brothers-in-law, as well as her adopted family: Michael Patterson, Jessica Rather, Dr. Kelly W. Warshael, and Wendy Custer of the hospice care team.  Friends will be received at the Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, 921 Menoher Blvd. on Saturday from 12 PM until the time of service at 1 PM, Bishop David March officiating.  Interment at Benshoff Hill cemetery.
