Matilda Laslo Obituary

Matilda A. (Matchik) Laslo, 96, Johnstown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 22, 2020.  Born in Johnstown, June 25, 1924, daughter of the late Rudolph and Susan (Tutsock) Matchik.  She graduated from Johnstown High School in 1942.  Tillie became part of the Signal Corps at the beginning of World War II.  She stayed in Philadelphia to attend nursing school and become an R.N.  She came back to Johnstown and married Elmer Laslo on November 27, 1947.  They were married for 57 years before his death in August, 2004.  She was also preceded in death by her brothers Fred and Robert Matchik, sister Dorothy Timko.  Survived by her sons Elmer C. Laslo and wife Barbara of Johnstown; Richard A. Laslo and wife MaryJo of Houston, PA; grandchildren Jill Bauer (Dan); Lauren Whitman (Matt); Eric, Joseph and Emily Laslo; 5 great-grandchildren, Andrew and Julia Bauer; Keira and Brooke Whitman; and Ella Laslo; sister Evelyn Evanisko (George) and brother Rudy Matchik (Rita), along with numerous nieces and nephews.  Tillie was a private duty nurse for many years at Memorial Medical Center.  Before the “77” flood, she was the store nurse at Penn Traffic.  She was an excellent cook and baker, with her family reaping the rewards of her delicious meals, her nut rolls, pumpkin pies, Easter bread, homemade chocolate candy, and so much more, all prepared with love.  “Mimi” was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife and sister.  Friends will be received Friday from 9-11 AM at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, Inc., 921 Menoher Blvd.  Funeral services will be private, Rev. Julia Sprenkle officiating, and entombment following at Grandview Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elknud Lane, Johnstown, PA, 15905.  Due to Covid 19, masks and social distancing will be strictly enforced.
