Melvin G. Simmons, 90, Johnstown, died December 16, 2020. He was born November 19, 1930, in Johnstown, son of the late James and Mildred (Hartman) Simmons, he was also preceded in death by his wife the former Marian C. Ciaravella, daughter-in-law, Jonelle Simmons, brother-in-law, Charles Gegogeine and brother-in-law, Robert Callahan, and sister-in-law, Joanne (Ciaravella) Todaro. He is survived by sons, William E. Simmons, Raleigh, NC; Thomas A. Simmons, (Nancy) Johnstown; Edward B. Simmons (Julie) New Albany OH; Grandchildren, David A. Moore (Josephine), Anthony J. Simmons (Bonnie), Lauren M. Simmons, Kelly L. Simmons, Nicole L. Simmons ; Great-grandchildren, Nala Moore, Leo Moore, Sabina Moore, and Samuel Simmons. Also survived by sister Norine Gegogeine, Tifton, GA; sisters-in-law, Vivian Callahan, Milford, MI; and Rosann Furry (Jack) Linden, MI. Melvin served with the Marine Corps during the Korean War, then was an inspector with Bethlehem Steel, after retirement, was employed for many years by AAA in their Johnstown office, and also an instructor of the 55 Alive Program with AARP. He was a member of Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. Interment will be at St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there will be no services at the present time, but there will be a Mass at a later time.
