Michael Leroy Shaffer

Michael Leroy “Mike” Shaffer, Sr., 52, of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, passed away on September 10, 2026. He was born on September 12, 1973, in Johnstown.

Mike lived his life with a deep love for his family and friends. Above all else, he treasured his children and grandchildren. He was a devoted father and grandfather who cherished the time he spent with them and the memories they created together.

Mike had a personality and sense of humor that made him impossible to forget. He loved watching Grease, All the Rocky movies, was a devoted San Francisco 49ers fan, and enjoyed fishing, smoking weed, spending time with the people he loved. He was known for his own unique sayings, including, “When it’s my time, God will take me,” “Never say hate,” and, with his unmistakable humor, “It’s 420 somewhere.”

Mike is survived by his spouse, Stacy Shaffer; sister, Beth Hardesty; many nieces and nephews; his children, Michaela Shaffer, Michael Shaffer Jr., Caitlin Kinsey, Savana Kinsey, Alyssa Schempp, and Amanda Blough; and his 12 grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his best friend, Matt Bennett; cousin, Dwayne Gresik; children’s mother, Jessica Malenich; and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved Grandma Bubba and his close friend Eric Kline, with whom he shared many memories and a love of fishing. We hope Mike and Eric are together again, fishing in heaven and catching up on all the time they missed.

Mike will be remembered for his love of his family and friends, his children and grandchildren, his sense of humor, his love of marijuana, and the countless memories he left behind. He was truly one of a kind and will never be forgotten.

A memorial service will be held on September 28, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Oakland Church.
