Rose V. Samuels-Reed, 94, Johnstown, died February 15, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her loving daughters.. Born March 3, 1930 in Johnstown, daughter of John W. and Lillie (Borders) Sanders. Preceded in death by parents; first husband Joseph Samuels and second husband Walter Reed, son Michael Samuels, daughter Teresa Price, grandson Robert Samuels II.; and sisters, Mary, Marva, and Lillie; and brothers, Charles, John, Melvin, Curtis, Ernest, and Calvin. Survived by sons Joseph Samuels, Jr. (Sabrina) GA; Robert Samuels (Brenda) MD; daughters Maureen Samuels, MD; and Debra Samuels, MD; grandchildren Thomas Williams (Swiyyah), Joseph Samuels III, and Angelica Samuels ; and great grandchildren, Kennedi, Logan, Cruz, Chase, Noah, Genesis, Addison, and Carson. Also surviving are brother Louis Sanders (Bettie), FL; and sister in love Lillie Sanders, CA: along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Rose was a gifted pianist with the ability to read music and play by ear. Rose has always been active in the church giving her time and talent to the glory of God. She attended Shiloh Baptist Church as a child and was their church pianist for many years. She later joined Jefferson Memorial FB Church where she was the church pianist. She also served as a worship leader at New Hope Community Church.
Rose led an active life. She graduated from Johnstown High School in 1948. A group of graduates, called the 48ers, met monthly for lunch. She belonged to the Johnstown Senior Activities Center where she was secretary of the Board and a member of the Senior Serenaders and the Flood City Line Dancers. Rose was a longtime employee of Glosser Bros department store where she was head cashier in the shoe department.
Rose learned to swim and became an avid bowler later in life. She loved to travel. Rose took several cross country trips by car and plane. She also travelled internationally. The highlight of her travels was a trip to Israel where she was baptized in the Jordan River by her eldest son.
Friends will be received on Saturday at Stephens Memorial Church, 314 William Penn Ave, Johnstown, PA 15901, from 10 AM until time of service at 11 AM, Rev. Charles Johnson, Pastor and Eulogist, Bishop Joseph McGauley officiating. Interment at Grandview Cemetery.
