Sherrine King Obituary

Sherrine Louise King was born November 8, 1944 to the late Kathleen and James Yates.  Sherrine was the 3rd of four children and was preceeded in death by her older brother, Robert Wilson.

Sherrine was educated in the Johnstown, PA Public School System.  Her professional career was primarily in the health care industry, retiring as a Unit Clerk in 2009 from the Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center after multiple decades of service.

She had a gentle, compassionate, kind spirit, never hesitating to help anyone in need. Although her family called her bossy (LOL), she was known as a true sweetheart. She enjoyed her family more than anything, and also enjoyed baking and spending time with her gym lady friends.

Sherrine spent as much time as she could with her only child, Vaughn, her “DIL” (Daughter-In-Love), Tammy and two grandchildren Gavin and Kyndra who live in Clinton, MD.  Every summer and most holidays, you could find her in Maryland enjoying the good life that her immediate family had to offer.  She also loved spending quiet/quality time on her front porch with her best friend and sister, Sylvia Tullis.

Sherrine also shared fond times with her sisters of Mecca Temple 294 where she served multiple terms as Daughter Ruler.  Under her leadership, Mecca Temple won numerous state-wide awards.

Left to cherish her memories are her son, Vaughn (Tammy); grandchildren, Gavin and Kyndra; sister, Sylvia Tullis; brother, Paul Yates; nephews, Terrence (Denise), Shawn (Maria), Wayne and Dennis; nieces Tamara (Vernon), Kathleen (Reginald) and Angela and a host of other family members and life-long friends.

Friends will be received at the Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, 921 Menoher Blvd. on Monday from 10 AM until the time of service at 12 PM, Rev. Sylvia King officiating.  Interment at Grandview Cemetery.  Repast immediately following at Flood City Lodge 371, 650 Horner Street.
