Sylvia E. (Woods) Burns

Sylvia E. Burns, 89, Johnstown, died December19, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center.  She was born May 30, 1929, in Morgantown, WV, daughter of the late James A. and Sylvia L. (Callahan) Woods, and also preceded in death by her loving husband Robert L. Burns, in 1993; son, Robert L. Burns, Jr.; and sister Marjorie Layman.  Sylvia is survived by her daughters, Linda Burns and Kathleen Molinski, and husband Alex, both of Johnstown; daughter-in-law, Lori (Miller) Burns, Ebensburg; and twin grandchildren, Jordon and Makaila; and also by siblings, Elwood Woods and Patricia Stull, both of FL; and LaVerne Hollowniczky, Beaverdale; and her feline companion, Malachy.  With her husband, the owned and operated the Kernville News for 38 years.  Sylvia enjoyed testing her luck with lottery scratch-off tickets and an occasional beer.  Friends will be received Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, Inc., 921 Menoher Blvd., where services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday.  Interment Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Susan G. Komar Foundation, or St. Judes Children’s Hospital.
