Obituary

 Vera Marie (Farmer) Penrod, 92, Westmont, passed away on December 13, 2022 with her family at her side. 

Vera was born in New York City on July 19, 1930, raised in Asbury Park, NJ, and graduated from The College of New Rochelle.  Prior to her marriage she was employed by Jersey Central Power and Light, Morristown, NJ.  In 1960, she was married to her devoted husband of 61 years, the late Jack E. Penrod, and relocated to Westmont.  Vera was active in Our Mother of Sorrows Church as a volunteer and as a Eucharistic Minister to the homebound. She was a board member of the Community Arts Center of Cambria County, Talus Rock Girl Scouts, the American Association of University Women, and a member of the Conemaugh Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.  Over the years, Vera was an active tennis player and avid bridge player.  She enjoyed playing golf and was a longtime member of Sunnehanna Country Club.  Vera and Jack enjoyed traveling and spent many winters in Sun City Center, Florida enjoying the warm weather, entertaining, and many outdoor activities.  Vera was kind, fun loving and cherished time with her family and friends.

Vera is survived by her children Marjorie Penrod (Eric Wallar) of New York City, NY; John Penrod (George Hanna) of Princeton, NJ; and Nancy Forrest (Ron Forrest) of Princeton Junction, NJ.  Cherished grandmother of Joshua Forrest, John Wallar, Samantha Forrest, and Anne Wallar.  Vera is also survived by nieces and nephews Marybeth Young, Kathleen Etoll Shanley, Robert Farmer, Susan Dabbar, Edward Etoll, Joan Maderious, Bryan Etoll, Mary Anne Marchl and many special grand-nieces and nephews.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Louis J. and Vera M. (O’Connor) Farmer; husband Jack E. Penrod, who passed away this year in February; sister Mary E. and husband Edward Etoll; brother Robert J. and wife Joan Farmer; niece Sheila Etoll; and nephew William Mallinson.

Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-5 PM at Picking-Treece-Bennett Funeral Home, 921 Menoher Boulevard, Johnstown, PA 15905. A funeral mass will be held at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church on Monday at 10 AM, Rev. Mark Begly officiating. Interment, Grandview Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Arts Center of Cambria County at caccc.org or Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, in memory of Vera M. Penrod.  Condolences may be forwarded to the family, or to Laurel View Village, 2000 Cambridge Drive, Davidsville, PA 15928, Attn: Family of Vera Penrod.
