William "Bill" Karl Eckel, died at home on September 8, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones, following a four-year battle with cancer. He was born on March 22, 1941 in Johnstown, PA, and preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Mary (Scanlan) Eckel.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Lee Ann (Boroski) Eckel, and loving children Gregory (Kitty) Eckel, Amy (Peter) Carlson and Louise Eckel (fiancé James Tassone). He is survived by three grandchildren: Simon Eckel, Lucy Eckel and Bradley Carlson. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Goettler, and numerous nieces, nephews and their children.
Bill, a graduate of Pitt Law School, was a practicing attorney for over fifty years in which time he helped many individuals, particularly members of the PSEA union.
Bill was a devoted sports fan and an avid golfer. He especially loved the Pittsburgh Pirates, Penguins and all college football teams. He was a voracious reader and in his later years, a jigsaw puzzle enthusiast. Bill loved his numerous golf trips with his buddies and travels with his family, especially to Skytop Lodge in the Poconos.
He was an intelligent, patient, congenial and honorable man who gave the best hugs ever. Bill was so loved by his family and will be forever remembered in our hearts.
At Bill’s request, there will be no viewing. Service will be held at the convenience of the family. Contributions may be made in Bill’s memory to Windber Hospice or Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
