Mary LaVerne (Mostoller) Mohney

Mary LaVerne Mohney, 86, Johnstown, passed away peacefully February 1, 2017. Born March 8, 1930, in Johnstown, the daughter of the late Frederick C. and Mary (Clark) Mostoller. Preceded in death by husband, Joseph P. Mohney, son, Paul Mohney, & brother, Fred Mostoller. Survived by loving daughter, Sue Lease and husband, Bill; grandchildren, Erin Gavin, Shane Gavin, Jordan Lease and wife, Shannon and Nathan and John Mohney; great-grandchildren, Hudson and Willow Lease and daughter-in-law, Joanne Mohney, and nieces and nephews.  Mary attended The University of Pittsburgh Nursing School, where she met the love of her life, Joe and was blessed with a marriage of 62 years. She was a member of Westmont Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deaconess. She loved to play golf, bridge and to travel and drove her family to St. Pete Beach for many wonderful vacations in the 50’s and 60’s. Mary was a true lady, a loving wife, and incredible mom, grandmother and a wonderful friend. We will always remember her witty sense of humor, compassionate love and never ending support of our hopes and dreams. She taught us all to live each day to the fullest, never hold grudges and always believe in ourselves. We will always remember her with much love and a smile on our faces. I thank you for those special years, of laughter, love and even tears. You gave to me a legacy, a part of you, is part of me.”  Special thanks to Conemaugh Hospital and Westmont Woods employees for their loving care over the past month. Friends received from 1 p.m. until time of memorial service at 3 p.m., Saturday February 4th at Picking- Treece-Bennett Mortuary Inc., 921 Menoher Blvd. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in LaVerne’s memory to the charity of your choice.
